Silicon Catalyst, the organization delivering the government-backed ChipStart incubator, has announced funding for an additional 11 semiconductor startups. Launched in October 2023, the initiative aims to support emerging companies in bringing new products to market.
Among the second round of startup companies receiving support are HeronIC, focused on developing chips for more efficient AI systems, and POM Health, working on wearable hormone monitoring patches for fertility treatment.
Minister for science Patrick Vallance expressed optimism about the impact of ChipStart, highlighting the potential for innovations to address global challenges and drive economic growth. The program offers early-stage semiconductor companies access to design capabilities, mentorship, and exposure to private capital.
Sean Redmond, managing partner of SiliconCatalyst.UK, emphasized the program’s role in facilitating the transition of academic innovations into market-ready technologies. Companies like MintNeuro and Vaire Computing have already seen success, securing additional funding and forming key partnerships.
Wave Photonics, another cohort member, closed an early funding round for its technology simplifying the design of photonic chips. CEO James Lee expressed excitement about the potential of their technology to revolutionize various applications beyond datacoms.
