Architectural Rethinking Essential for SAP Public Cloud Migration

According to analyst Gartner, around 74% of SAP S/4HANA implementation projects are currently being deployed on public clouds. While this offers several benefits such as scalability and additional SAP instances, Gartner warns IT leaders against simply replicating their on-premise setups in the cloud.

Gartner’s report emphasizes the need for IT leaders to work with business leaders to assess key performance indicators and create an architecture that can achieve them. They also recommend avoiding copying existing on-premise installations onto the public cloud, as this could increase the total cost of ownership without adding significant value.

The report also highlights that cloud providers offer migration incentives and different processor and memory configurations for SAP-certified instances. It is important for IT decision-makers to have a full understanding of these components and their interactions within the broader cloud architecture to ensure the selected cloud provider can meet their integration needs.

Gartner warns that deploying SAP on the public cloud without professional help from a managed service provider can be challenging for many customers. It is crucial to verify that the chosen cloud provider can support all non-SAP systems and third-party appliances required for a successful deployment.
