Atos seizes the opportunity for Euro 2024

The European Football Championship in Germany this summer has highlighted the impact of digital technology on the consumption of sporting events, with unseen services playing a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of the tournament. While consumers enjoy the broadcast coverage of the Euros, the logistical support provided by teams like Atos is essential for its success.

Atos is responsible for IT planning and operational systems, working closely with Uefa tech teams to build a temporary IT infrastructure capable of handling the demands of competitors, spectators, partner businesses, and global broadcasters. The IT support staff, consisting of about 120 people working at various sites including stadiums and the International Broadcasting Centre, play a critical role in managing requests for accreditation, hotel bookings, transport transfers, meal bookings, and more.

The IT team also faces challenges such as cyber attacks, which are a real threat to the security of the tournament. Uefa works closely with local authorities to address physical and cyber security threats and ensure a safe and successful event. The IT Command Centre closely monitors services to quickly address any issues that may arise.

While much of the IT work goes unseen, the broadcast centre brings the tournament to viewers around the world. Uefa provides systems to international broadcasting companies, distributing data on fixtures, results, line-ups, and statistics to external broadcasters and media. With the Euros and the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic games, Atos has its hands full, with separate teams dedicated to each event.

As the tournament progresses, the dedication of IT teams behind the scenes ensures a seamless experience for all stakeholders involved in the Euros. From managing accreditation to monitoring cyber threats, these unsung heroes play a vital role in the success of the event.
