Blackpool Council seeks datacentre developers for technology-focused town regeneration initiative

Blackpool Council is seeking support from datacentre operators to help establish a technology campus known as Silicon Sands. Located within the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone, the 40-acre campus will house renewable datacentres to attract businesses seeking low-latency connections to high-performance computing resources.
As part of the project, datacentre operators are encouraged to partner with the council to create an AI and HPC technology demonstration facility on site, showcasing energy-efficient cooling technology and sustainable energy practices.
The Silicon Sands initiative aims to draw inward investment from datacentre developers, similar to how Dublin and New York have benefited from their proximity to internet cables. The project has the potential to bring thousands of new jobs to the Fylde Coast and promote environmental sustainability within the datacentre industry.
Mark Smith, from Blackpool Council, believes Silicon Sands has the power to transform the town and the region by fostering a digital revolution and retaining local talent. The initiative also presents an opportunity for the datacentre industry to showcase a climate-friendly future and drive regeneration benefits.
