Broadcom becomes the sole distributor of VMware Cloud on AWS

Broadcom has announced that it is now the exclusive seller of VMware Cloud on AWS, eliminating sales of the service through AWS and third-party partners. In a blog post, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan confirmed the move, stating that it aligns with the company’s goal to consolidate VMware offerings into a few subscription options with fixed pricing and billing. Tan also addressed concerns that VMware Cloud on AWS would be discontinued, emphasizing that the service will continue to be available. However, industry analysts suggest that Broadcom’s negative perception stemming from its acquisition last November may impact consumer confidence. Customers who previously purchased VMware Cloud through AWS or a third-party reseller will now work with Broadcom or an authorized reseller to review and expand their subscriptions. AWS will continue to support VMware Cloud on AWS but will no longer resell the services. The service, launched in 2017, provides VMware Cloud Foundation capabilities within AWS and is managed through a customer’s VMware console. Other cloud providers offering VMware services, such as Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, are not expected to undergo similar changes. Customers are still evaluating their options, with AWS offering discounts on its VMware Migration Accelerator to attract clients.
