Cisco has unveiled a new network architecture designed for the evolving workplace, emphasizing simplicity and speed. At Cisco Live 2025, CEO Chuck Robbins pointed out that businesses are adapting rapidly, not just due to tech changes but also because of geopolitical shifts. He emphasized that blending security services into networks is vital for effective workflows.

During the event, Cisco shared insights from a recent IT networking survey. The findings revealed that 97% of businesses recognize the need to upgrade their networks for successful AI and IoT initiatives. The stakes are high; a major outage could lead to losses as much as $160 billion globally. IT teams now face pressures to scale operations and enhance efficiency while minimizing downtime.

Cisco President Jeetu Patel cautioned that the rise of AI is generating massive traffic across networks. This surge complicates security and could overwhelm IT teams, especially since any downtime is costly. He forecasted a split among companies—those that thrive with AI and those that lag behind—and affirmed Cisco’s commitment to helping businesses excel with their AI capabilities.

Patel highlighted the changing demands of infrastructure due to AI, noting the need for increased computing power, bandwidth, and lower latency. He stressed that modernizing networks is crucial for effectively managing AI workloads.

The new architecture offers operational simplicity through unified management, combining various networking devices with built-in security. This approach aims to empower businesses in adopting AI services confidently, giving them a competitive advantage. Cisco views operational complexity as a significant challenge and has created a unified management platform that supports a range of deployments, from cloud to hybrid.

Additionally, Cisco announced improvements to its ThousandEyes platform, enhancing visibility into networks and service performance. The AI-driven approach, called AgenticOps, uses real-time data and automation to streamline operations. The Cisco AI Assistant, leveraging a deep network model, simplifies issue resolution and workflow automation.

Cisco showcased new hardware tailored to the demands of AI workloads, focusing on low latency and high capacity. This marks a significant refresh of their networking devices, including the launch of the Cisco Wireless 9179F Series Access Points for large venues and ruggedized switches for industrial applications. These updates aim to support advanced uses like autonomous robots and visual inspections.

The latest generation of Smart Switches provides impressive throughput and latency, enhancing overall networking performance. Cisco is introducing innovative routers with integrated security features tailored for modern workloads, emphasizing the need for faster and more efficient solutions.

As firms face complex security threats, Cisco is integrating advanced protections across network infrastructure, data, and user endpoints. Patel underscored that security is essential for productivity and trust in AI systems. He reiterated the importance of a consistent security framework, detailing how it should support applications without requiring constant adjustments.
