Just days after launching a new wholesale broadband product allowing ISPs to offer symmetrical speeds of 5.5Gbps to business customers, CityFibre announced it has tripled the reach of its dedicated Ethernet services. Now, over 260,000 businesses across the UK can access these services, up from 80,000.
This roll-out features a dedicated Ethernet platform, supported by CityFibre’s engineering partner, Calix. It aims to provide enterprise-grade service guarantees and connects CityFibre’s full FTTP network with its Business ISPs. With more businesses in the network, partners can run more effective sales and marketing campaigns. CityFibre claims its Ethernet services are up to 20% cheaper than leading competitors.
Their investment in Ethernet services relies on a nationwide upgrade to 10Gbps XGS passive optical network (XGS-PON) technology, which started in 2022. This upgrade covers 85% of their network and will be completed later this summer. The 5.5Gbps product will be available across CityFibre’s entire full-fibre network, with even faster options expected in 2026.
Andy Nash, CityFibre’s director for business, government, and mobile, highlighted that this expansion goes beyond just broadband. “We’re building a digital infrastructure platform for all market sectors,” he noted. He emphasized that tripling their business footprint will significantly boost partners’ market potential and growth opportunities.
CityFibre has also made strides to expedite the installation of Ethernet connections by up to 40%. Alongside this, they’re introducing a delivery assurance guarantee, boosting confidence for partners against unexpected installation delays.
Nathan Marke, chief strategy officer at CityFibre partner Giacom, pointed out that dependable internet access is becoming essential for UK businesses. He noted that the delivery assurance guarantee reflects CityFibre’s focus on technology and reliable service, providing peace of mind for a community of over 6,000 MSPs and resellers.
Nick Shraga, COO at Southern Communications, echoed this sentiment, saying that strong connectivity and excellent customer service are crucial as their customers grow and adapt. CityFibre’s Ethernet expansion, competitive pricing, and reliable installations promise to enhance the landscape for UK businesses.
