London-based altnet provider Community Fibre has connected over 300,000 residents and businesses in the capital to its full-fibre network. At the same time, Virgin Media has expanded its gigabit broadband services to 11,000 homes in Huddersfield. Community Fibre, funded by Warburg Pincus LLC, DTCP Railpen, and NDIF, aims to reach 2.2 million London homes with full-fibre broadband by 2024. The company has seen significant growth in customer base and is focused on providing fast, affordable, and sustainable broadband.
Meanwhile, Virgin Media’s Gig2 broadband, offering speeds of up to 2Gbps, is now available in Huddersfield through its partnership with Nexfibre. This network, supported by investments from Virgin Media O2 shareholders, will serve five million homes by 2026. Kirklees Council is committed to expanding high-speed digital connectivity in the area, with councillor Graham Turner noting the importance of reliable internet access for modern life. The partnership with Virgin Media will bring faster broadband to 11,000 more people in Huddersfield.
