Dell joins forces with Nvidia to enter the generative AI market

Dell Technologies has entered the generative AI market by launching Project Helix in partnership with Nvidia. This joint project aims to provide on-premises Dell customers with generative AI capabilities for their business needs. It was revealed at the Dell Technologies World 2023 conference in Las Vegas on May 23.

Customers will have access to Dell servers and Nvidia hardware, as well as Nvidia AI Enterprise software, which supports frameworks like NeMo and NeMo Guardrails for building generative AI chatbots. Analysts have noted that Dell is offering an “AI in a box” solution, catering to enterprises in need of their own infrastructure.

While the initial expense of setting up an on-premises generative AI infrastructure may be a drawback, analysts believe it could be more cost-effective in the long term. Security concerns and the need for IT support from Dell’s team are also factors to consider for enterprises looking into this solution.

Dell’s Project Helix system will be available through traditional Dell channels and Apex flexible consumption options starting in July. The conference where this was announced started on May 22 and is running both in person and virtually until May 25.
