Delta receives strong response from Microsoft and CrowdStrike over legal threats

Microsoft and CrowdStrike have responded to accusations by Delta after a software outage on 19 July resulted in thousands of flight cancellations. Delta CEO Ed Bastian has initiated a legal battle against the two suppliers, claiming they failed to collaborate effectively to prevent the technical issues.
However, Microsoft’s representatives have disputed Bastian’s claims, stating that they offered assistance to Delta immediately after the outage, but were repeatedly turned down. The letter from Microsoft’s legal team also stated that Delta’s outdated IT infrastructure contributed to the prolonged recovery time compared to other airlines.
CrowdStrike also defended itself, stating that they offered assistance to Delta but were told it was not needed. They expressed disappointment with Delta’s threats of litigation and emphasized their ongoing cooperation with Delta’s information security team.
Both Microsoft and CrowdStrike have warned Delta of the potential consequences of pursuing legal action, highlighting the need for transparency regarding Delta’s IT decisions and response to the outage. They have urged Delta to focus on resolving the issues rather than engaging in public posturing about potential lawsuits.
