Eurocontrol Collaborates with Atos to Facilitate Transition to Public Cloud

Atos has launched the first multi-region public cloud for Eurocontrol, the pan-European civil-military aviation organization. This cloud will host air traffic management applications, a critical part of ensuring safe flying across Europe.

Atos recently announced it secured a contract extension with Eurocontrol. This move highlights the trust both organizations have built over the years and underscores Atos’s deep understanding of Eurocontrol’s needs. The partnership spans over a decade, aimed at improving efficiency and sustainability in the aviation sector.

As part of this contract, Atos will strengthen Eurocontrol’s IT infrastructure—managing the platforms, networks, and security systems essential for their operations. The new cloud technology will enhance Eurocontrol’s infrastructure, specifically designed to support its air traffic management applications.

A spokesperson from Eurocontrol shared that the cloud went live last month and received accreditation from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. They emphasized the importance of designing a cloud system that meets regulatory standards while ensuring safety and quality. In October, Eurocontrol launched the first certified mission-critical cloud-based platform for European aviation, which will facilitate smoother connections among aviation stakeholders.

The project aligns with Eurocontrol’s Integrated Network Management (INM) program, aiming to replace outdated systems by 2030 to adapt to evolving aviation demands. The program emphasizes user-centric design and involves stakeholders at every development stage, ensuring that new tools meet operational needs.

Punit Sehgal, CEO of Atos Group for Belgium and Luxembourg, expressed pride in supporting Eurocontrol. He acknowledged their partnership as crucial for advancing air traffic management.

Antonio Licu, Eurocontrol’s CIO, stressed the organization’s commitment to high safety and efficiency standards in European aviation. Leveraging Atos’s expertise in critical infrastructure and cybersecurity, he believes they can enhance the resilience and readiness of their IT systems, vital for the future of airspace management.
