Government states that DSIT has been revamped to enhance digital public services

The new government plans to revamp the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) in order to enhance public services and boost economic growth through advancements in science and technology. The expanded DSIT will bring together experts in data, digital, and artificial intelligence from various government departments to drive digital transformation efforts and improve the public experience of engaging with government services.

The government envisions DSIT as the “digital centre of government”, working alongside other departments to maximize the potential of technology in improving daily life and public services across the country. DSIT will also support government departments in using technology in areas such as education, energy, health, and policing, and help civil servants incorporate digital tools and AI into their work.

Secretary of state for science, innovation and technology, Peter Kyle, aims to lead DSIT in accelerating innovation, investment, and productivity in the UK’s scientific and research sector, while ensuring the safe development of new technologies. As one of the 56 LGBTQ+ MPs in Parliament, Kyle was appointed to his role by Prime Minister Keir Starmer and has been actively developing Labour’s technology strategy since his appointment.
