Hackers breach Pure Storage’s Snowflake credentials

Pure Storage has become the latest victim of the Snowflake credentials breach, where cyber criminals gained access to a data analytics workspace containing customer information. The company reassured customers that sensitive information like passwords and data stored on customer systems was not compromised. Pure took immediate action to block further unauthorized access and is monitoring the situation closely.
The breach was attributed to a threat actor known as UNC5537, who targeted Snowflake customers by exploiting stolen credentials. The use of multifactor authentication (MFA) was highlighted as a crucial security measure to prevent such intrusions. Chester Wisniewski from Sophos emphasized the importance of implementing MFA to protect sensitive data and urged companies to prioritize cybersecurity hygiene. Sophos and other software vendors have signed onto the Secure by Design pledge to promote the adoption of MFA among clients.
