Infinidat Introduces Smaller G4 Arrays Delivering Alleged 2x Performance Boost

Infinidat has introduced two new products, the Infinibox G4, which offer a significant performance boost compared to previous models. The switch from Intel to AMD central processing units (CPUs) in the triple-active controllers of these products has resulted in a 2x increase in performance. The Infinibox G4 includes the Infinibox SSA G4 F1400T series, which is a compact option designed for edge and smaller datacentre locations, and the InfiniBox G4F4420, which addresses the capacity gap in the F4400 series by using 20TB drives.

The Infinibox G4 uses SAS self-encrypting HDDs, ranging from 4TB to 20TB, as backend storage, while the Infinibox SSA G4 utilizes SAS-connected TLC flash drives up to 16TB. Unlike previous offerings, the Infinibox SSA G4 provides options for 60%, 80%, and 100% drive-populated configurations.

In addition to the new products, Infinidat has made its InfuzeOS Cloud Edition available in the Microsoft Azure cloud, alongside its existing presence in Amazon Web Services (AWS). Infinidat arrays can be all-flash or hybrid, targeting high-end enterprise and service provider customers. These arrays feature triple-active controllers and use a neural cache to optimize data placement.

The F1400T series, with a small footprint and base capacities of 155TB, 310TB, and 617TB, is designed for colocation, edge storage, and smaller datacentres. The F4420 model, on the other hand, adds a higher-capacity option to the existing F4400 series, making 3.17PB of usable capacity available.

The new G4 generation, powered by AMD Epyc CPUs, offers double the performance of the previous Intel chips. Infinidat has reported a 31% increase in CPU cores, resulting in the enhanced performance. The company expects a future performance boost of 3x to 3.5x with further optimizations.

Alongside the product updates, Infinidat has also introduced enhancements to its Infiniverse consumption and management console. These upgrades offer improved reporting on various storage functionality aspects, such as snapshots, with the ability to schedule or trigger reports automatically.

Lastly, the InfuzeOS Cloud Edition, initially available only on AWS, has been extended to Microsoft Azure to accommodate customers who use both platforms. This edition provides a consistent interface between on-premise and cloud environments, facilitating disaster recovery, test and development, general-purpose cloud storage, and backup. Infinidat currently has no plans to add support for Google Cloud Platform.
