Israel’s cybersecurity leader urges global coalition to combat Iranian hackers

During the Cyber Week conference in Tel Aviv, Gaby Portnoy, director general of the Israel National Cyber Directorate, emphasized the importance of global collaboration in combating Iranian state-linked hacking. Noting that Iran’s cyber aggression extends beyond Israel to countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, Canada, the UAE, the UK, Germany, and Austria, Portnoy called for a united front to address the threats posed by hacking groups such as MuddyWater and Imperial Kitten.

He highlighted the need for enhanced cyber defences, particularly following the increase in cyber attacks against critical national infrastructure since the Hamas attacks in 2023. Portnoy stressed the importance of securing the digital space through international cooperation and innovative solutions, suggesting that a coordinated effort could lead to the development of more resilient technologies and automatic update systems to counter cyber threats effectively.
