Keepit to Broaden SaaS Backup Reach and Enhance Intelligent Automation

Keepit, a Denmark-based SaaS backup provider, is ramping up its offerings this June and July. They’re adding support for Atlassian tools like Jira and Confluence, along with Okta’s access management for Google Workspace. This follows their recent April update, which introduced anomaly detection in backups.

Michael Amsinck, Keepit’s Chief Product Officer, explains that this anomaly detection looks for trends by analyzing large data sets over time. If, for instance, a backup snapshot shows a significant drop in data size, that’s a red flag that something might be wrong. The technology focuses on identifying harmful objects and monitoring the overall data environment.

Keepit faces challenges in determining what workloads customers consider critical. Answers can vary widely, but many businesses use Microsoft or Google alongside access tools like Entra ID or Okta, with integrations already in place for the former and plans for Okta in July.

Looking ahead, Amsinck mentioned developing a threat library in collaboration with a third party. This library will scan for potential disruptions during backup processes. The growing complexity of SaaS applications poses risks; acquiring and linking tools can create vulnerable connections where bad actors might exploit weaknesses.

Keepit also aims to enhance its restore capabilities with smarter automation. The goal is to tailor data recovery based on customer needs and priorities, rather than restoring everything all at once. This approach starts when a client begins their backup process, helping them think about what data is most essential.

As one of the growing number of SaaS cloud-to-cloud backup providers, Keepit addresses the gap left by cloud services, which often don’t offer comprehensive backup solutions. They operate their own data centers in various regions, ensuring that backups are stored separately from the source applications. Each region functions independently, protecting customer data with active failover and without extra charges for data transfers—customers only pay for the number of seats they use.

Keepit’s backup solution is structured to run incrementally, generally once or twice daily, allowing users to see and preview individual files, depending on the workload.
