Kingston Council Partners with Boldyn to Enhance Digital Infrastructure

Kingston Council has teamed up with Boldyn Networks to enhance digital connectivity in Kingston town centre and Surbiton.

Located about 16km southwest of London, Kingston serves around 165,000 residents. Its town centre boasts an impressive variety of shops, ranking as the top shopping spot outside the West End. The area features popular attractions like the Guildhall Art Gallery, Kingston Museum, the Kingston History Centre, and the Rose Theatre—the newest theatre in the UK. Kingston University adds to the vibrant scene, complemented by numerous bars and restaurants.

To boost high-quality connectivity for residents and local businesses, the council aims to attract digital infrastructure investments. This strategic partnership includes Transport for London (TfL), the Greater London Authority (GLA), and Boldyn Networks, all working towards a more connected future.

The project involves laying down high-speed fibre links to 58 CCTV locations, establishing a 10km network throughout Kingston and parts of Surbiton. Starting in April 2025, Boldyn Networks will install fibre optic cables to enhance internet access for locals and improve the borough’s CCTV services. These connections will link back to the main CCTV office at Kingswood Business Park, vital for public safety. Virgin Media Business will handle 12 of the connections, while Boldyn will implement the other 46.

The goal is to complete the project by February 2026, with Boldyn committing to minimize disruptions during the installation. Paul Osborne, Boldyn’s chief commercial officer for the UK and Ireland, emphasizes the importance of seamless connectivity. He views the partnership with Kingston Council as a key step towards a safer, thriving community.

Funding comes from the GLA’s Strategic Investment Fund, which supports full-fibre upgrades across London. This initiative aligns with the Mayor of London’s Connected London program, aimed at boosting digital connectivity for social and economic benefits.

Howard Dawber, the deputy mayor for business and growth, highlighted the importance of reliable high-speed internet access. He noted that Kingston and Surbiton are vital for business and leisure, and this collaboration will significantly benefit residents, tourists, and local businesses.
