New IOfortify from VergeIO puts a stop to ransomware propagation

VergeIO has introduced a new feature called IOfortify that enhances its HCI platform by providing ransomware protection. This new capability alerts users of any abnormalities within snapshots created in the production environment and allows for recovery to a safe restore point. Additionally, updates to the VergeOS platform, which offers virtualized networking, storage, and compute for data centers running on commodity hardware, help restrict the potential surface area for cyberattacks on HCI infrastructure.

According to analyst Dave Raffo, all IT products, including HCI solutions, need to have a robust ransomware defense strategy in place due to the increasing threats in the cyber world. IOfortify builds upon VergeIO’s IOclone snapshot capability released earlier this year, offering administrator alerts and security enhancements to the operating system. This feature creates clones of the VergeOS instance using deduping capabilities to prevent additional storage overhead and performance slowdowns.

The anomaly detection capabilities of IOfortify scan for abnormalities in VergeOS clones and alert administrators to any deviations from specified parameters within the operating system. These clones can be created quickly and efficiently, with deduping reducing the data’s original size by up to 90%. This technology helps track clones and identify any unauthorized data encryption processes, safeguarding the HCI environment from ransomware attacks.

Overall, VergeIO’s approach to ransomware protection differentiates it from other HCI platforms in terms of security and performance. By segregating virtual instances and closely monitoring snapshots, VergeOS provides a secure environment against potential cyber threats. With rapid clone creation, anomaly detection, and storage management capabilities, VergeIO is at the forefront of combating ransomware attacks in the HCI industry.
