New IT Chief Hired by Post Office While Awaiting Funding for Horizon Replacement

The Post Office is appointing a new technology leader as it awaits government funding for its Horizon IT system replacement programme, which was at the center of a scandal involving innocent subpostmasters. Chief transformation officer Chris Brocklesby is leaving on 6 September and will be replaced on an interim basis by Andy Nice, formerly of Camelot. The Post Office is also seeking a non-executive director to oversee technology. The new IT chief will face challenges in replacing Horizon, which was linked to the scandal. The Post Office has requested nearly £1bn in extra funding for the project, with a total bill of £1.1bn. The new system is now expected to be completed by 2030. Nice brings experience in leading complex change and business transformation. Government auditors have rated the Horizon replacement project with a red warning, indicating potential delivery issues. The Post Office must convince the government of the project’s viability to receive the necessary funding. The scandal first came to light in 2009 and is considered one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in British history.
