Research indicates that game development technology is increasingly being embraced by enterprises in various industries

Research conducted by DevOps and automation software maker Perforce suggests that enterprises across various industries are increasingly utilizing tools and techniques commonly used by computer game developers to innovate and deliver new offerings to their users.

The company’s 2024 State of Game Technology report, based on input from 546 respondents in 64 countries, aimed to gauge enterprise attitudes towards the use of game engine technology. Previous research by the company focused on technology adoption trends within the gaming industry, but this year’s report has a broader scope.

According to the report, half of the respondents indicated that game development technology is being applied in a range of projects outside of the gaming sector, including automotive, manufacturing, education, architecture, virtual production, and IT environments. This adoption is driven by the need for scalability and high performance, as well as the desire to deliver high-quality visuals to consumers across various applications.

Perforce’s collaboration with productivity software maker JetBrains highlighted the versatility of game technology, with its deep integration capabilities enabling teams to work across different workflows and industries. Brad Hart, CTO and VP of product management and digital creation at Perforce, attributed the increasing adoption of game technology in other industries to the innovative workflows developed by game developers. He emphasized that these workflows have streamlined collaboration and management of complexity on a global scale.
