Tech company collaborates with The Prince’s Trust to engage youth in the industry

The Prince’s Trust has teamed up with medical IT and cybersecurity firm Sectra to educate young people about careers in technology and encourage them to pursue a tech job in the future.

Launching the “Get into IT and Administration” program in Belfast this summer, the youth charity aims to help young individuals, particularly those from underrepresented groups, gain a better understanding of the various roles available in the technology sector and how they can work towards a career in tech.

One of the major obstacles preventing young people from considering tech careers is a lack of knowledge about what these roles entail. By partnering with Sectra, The Prince’s Trust is able to challenge misconceptions and inspire individuals from diverse backgrounds to explore opportunities in the digital and technology field.

Julia Beaumont, chief technology officer at The Prince’s Trust, emphasizes the importance of collaboration between governments, businesses, and charities to provide young people with the necessary skills for today’s job market. The partnership with Sectra enables the organizations to combine expertise and make the goal of empowering young people with technical skills a reality.

The “Get into IT and Administration” program not only offers participants real-world experience in the health tech sector but also provides assistance with CV writing and tech training. Some individuals even have the opportunity to pursue an apprenticeship with Sectra after completing the program.

Feedback from participants has been positive, with many expressing how the program helped them gain valuable skills and connect with individuals who could support their future careers. Despite these efforts, there is still a concern about the lack of young people, particularly from underrepresented groups, entering tech careers.

Both The Prince’s Trust and Sectra are committed to supporting individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds and providing them with the skills needed for a successful career in the technology industry. Jane Rendall, managing director for Sectra in the UK and Ireland, acknowledges the importance of diversity in the workforce and the role that health technology companies can play in empowering young people to excel in this sector.

The initiative with The Prince’s Trust reflects a commitment to embracing diversity and helping more young individuals realize their potential in a field that impacts many lives.
